Labret Piercing Aftercare
A labret piercing refers to any piercing that is below the lower lip. In ancient times the Mayans used these types of piercings to show when a male member of a tribe was highly influential or powerful. Nowadays it is popular with men and woman alike and it can be a great way to express your personal style.
Looking after you chin piercing is similar to looking after a tongue or lip piercing. You should be washing your new labret piercing at least 2 times a day in the morning and in the evening. This can be done using a special saline solution you can make at home – simply mix a few teaspoons of salt mixed with water. Alternatively you can use any good brand of gentle antibacterial wash. Make sure you swish your mouth with a mouthwash after every meal. Small pieces of food can get trapped in the wound and cause an infection.
Try not to touch or fiddle with your new piercing – let it heal in its own time. General healing times for this type of piercing range from 3 – 6 weeks. When you are sure that it is completely healed you are free to change your body jewellery in your labret.
